Chapter 1 - Day 2

1. third year - of the reign of king Jehoiakim of Judah
1. Jehoiakim - king of Judah in whose third year Nebuchanezzar came to besiege Jerusalem
1. Nebuchadnezzar - king of Babylon who besieged Jerusalem
1. Babylon - country where Nebuchadnezzar was from
1. Jerusalem - city in Judah besieged by Nebuchanezzar
2. Lord - gave Jehoiakim into hand of Nebuchadnezzar
2. Jehoiakim - allowed by the Lord to lose war with Nebuchadnezzar
2. house of God - some of the articles of the house of God were carried away from Jerusalem by             Nebuchadnezzar
2. land of Shinar - Nebuchadnezzar's land where the house of his god was located
2. house of his god - Nebuchadnezzar's god's house was in land of Shinar
2. treasure house of his god - where Nebuchadnezzar took the articles from the house of God
3. king - Nebuchanezzar, instructed Ashpenaz to bring some of the children of Israel to eat at his             house
3. Ashpenaz -  master of Nebuchadnezzar's eunuchs
3. children of Israel - captives from Jerusalem
4. young men - decendants of the king of Judah and nobles of Judah who were to be trained
4. Chaldeans -  the young men were to be taught the language and literature of the Chaldeans
5. king - Nebuchadnezzar, appointed a daily provision for young men of Judah and three years of           training
6. sons of Judah - the young men from Judah who Nebuchadnezzar appointed to eat of his table
6. Daniel - one of the sons of Judah
6. Hananiah - one of the sons of Judah
6. Mishael - one of the sons of Judah
6. Azariah - one of the sons of Judah
7. Daniel - renamed Belteshazzar by the chief of the eunuchs
7. Belteshazzar - Daniel's new name
7. Hananiah - renamed Shadrach by the chief of the eunuchs
7. Shadrach - Hananiah's new name
7. Mishael  - renamed Meshach by the chief of the eunuchs
7. Meshach - Misheal's new name
7. Azariah - renamed Abed-Nego by the chief of the eunuchs
7. Abed-Nego - Azariah's new name
8. Daniel - purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself
9. God -brought Daniel into favor and goodwill of the chief of the Eunuchs
9. Daniel - had favor and goodwill of the chief of the eunuchs because of God
9. chief of the eunuchs - had favor and goodwill towards Daniel because of God
10. chief of the eunuchs - was afraid to help Daniel not defile himself because his head would be               endangered before the king if Daniel looked worse than the young men who ate at the                          kings table
10. Daniel - chief steward told Daniel of his fear of doing as Daniel wanted
10. my lord the king - the master of the chief eunuch whom the chief eunuch feared
11. Daniel - approached the steward over Daniel and his friends with request for trial
11. steward - appointed over Daniel and his friends
11. chief of the eunuchs - appointed the steward over Daniel and his friends
11. Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, Azariah - those who Daniel proposed for the trial
12. ten days - amount of days Daniel proposed to the steward they would be tested by letting them eat       vegetables and drink water
13. young men - those who would eat the king's delicacies and who Daniel and his friends appearance      would be compared
13. king's - the young men  ate of the king's delicacies
14. ten days - steward agreed to test Daniel and his friends for ten days
15. ten days - at end of ten days Daniel and friends appeared better and fatter in flesh
15. young men - those who ate the king's delicacies who did not compare favorably with Daniel
15. king's - appointed the food of the young men of Judah
16. steward - over Daniel and his friends, took away Daniel and friends portion of the delicacies and         the wine they were to drink and gave them vegetables
17. four young men - Daniel and his friends, God gave them knowledge and skill in all literature and         wisdom
17.God -  gave knowldege and wisdom in all literature and wisdom
17.Daniel - had understanding in all visions and dreams
18. king - Nebuchadnezzar, all the young men were brought before Nebuchanezzar to be interviewed
18. chief of the eunuchs - took all the young men before Nebuchadnezzar to be interviewed
18. Nebuchadnezzar  - king of Babylon who the young men were brought before
19. king - Nebuchadnezzar, interviewed the young men of Judah
19. Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, Azariah - none were found like the four and he four served before the       king
19. king - the four served before Nebuchadnezzar
20. king - examined the young men and found the four ten times better than all of the magicians and astrologers of his realm
20. ten times - how much better Daniel and his friends were than the magicians and astrologers
20. magicians and astrologers - the ones Daniel and his friends were compared with
21. Daniel
21. first year - Daniel continued until first year of reign of King Cyrus
21. King Cyrus - Daniel continued until first year of King Cyrus

When those in charge of him resisted allowing Daniel to do what Daniel thought was right in matter of food and drink, Daniel proposed a test and let God work it out. Daniel didn't just quit when their was resistance, but came up with an idea that would allow him to do what he wanted and the chief of the eunuchs to not be afraid of being punished. In this case a trial allowed veryone to see the results of obeying God's health rules.
