1. Nebuchadnezzar - had dreams and his spirit was troubled, his sleep left him
2. king - gave command to call the magicians, astrologers, sorcerers, and Chaldeans to tell the king his dreams
2. magicians, astrologers, sorcerers, Chaldeans - those called by the king to tell him his dreams, they came and stood before the king
3. king -said 'I have had a dream, and my spirit is anxious to know the dream'
4. Chaldeans - spoke to the king, asked king to tell them the dream and promised the interpretation
4. Aramaic - Chaldeans spoke to king in Aramaic
4. king - Chaldeans answered the king
5. king - told Chaldeans his decision was firm, promised them bad things if they didn't tell him the dream and it's interpretation and rewards if they did
5. Chaldeans - those whom the king spoke to demanding to know the dream and it's interpretation
7. king - they asked the king again to tell them the dream and promised the interpretation
7. servants - Chaldeans referred to themselves as kings servants
8. king - accused them of stalling for time
10. Chaldeans - told king there was not a man on earth who could do what king asked
10. man on earth - no man on earth could do what king asked
10. king, lord, or ruler - Chaldeans said no king, lord, or ruler had ever asked of them what the king was asking
10. magician, astrologer, or Chaldean - never been asked to tell the dream by any king, lord, or ruler
11. king - it is difficult thing the king asks
11. gods - only the gods who don't dwell with flesh (mankind) could do as king asked
12. king - became angry and very furious and commanded all the wise men of Babylon be destroyed
12. wise men of Babylon - those ordered destroyed by the king
13. wise men - they begn killing the wise men
13. Daniel and his companions - those killing the wise men sought Daniel and his companions to kill them
14. Daniel - with counsel and wisdom approached Arioch
14. Arioch - captain of the king's guard who had gone out to kill the wise men of Babylon
14. wise men of Babylon - those whom Arioch was killing at the king's command
15. Arioch - Daniel asked Arioch why the king's command was so urgent, Arioch told Daniel of the kings command
15. king - Daniel asked why the decree from the king was so urgent
15. Daniel - Arioch made the decision known to Daniel
16. Daniel - went and asked the king for time, so he could tell the interpretation
16. king - Daniel asked king for time
17. Daniel - went to his house and made the decision known to his companions
17. house - where Daniel went to talk with his companions
17. Hananiah, Mishael, Azariah - Daniel's companions
18. God of heaven - Daniel and his companions sought mercies from the God of heaven so they would not perish with the rest of the wise men of Babylon
18. Daniel - Daniel and his companions did not want to perish with the rest of the wise men of Babylon
19. Daniel - secret was revealed to Daniel
19. night vision - secret revealed in a night vision
19. God of heaven - Daniel blessed God of heaven for revealing the secret to him
20. Daniel - Daniel blessed God
20. God - blessed be the name of God for wisdom and might are His
21. He - God changes times and seasons
21. times and seasons - God changes
21. kings - God removes kings and raises kings
21. wise God gives wisdom to the wise
21. those who have understanding - God gives knowledge to those who have understanding
22. He - God reveals deep and secret things
22. He - God knows what is in the darkness
22. Him - light dwells with God
23. God of my fathers - Daniel thanked and praised the God of his fathers, God gave Daniel wisdom and might and made known what they asked of God
24. Daniel - went to Arioch to tell him to not destroy the wise men, he could give the interpretation to the king
24. Arioch - appointed by the king to destroy the wise men of Babylon
24. wise men of Babylon - those whom the king had commanded to be destroyed
24. king - commanded the wise men of Babylon to be destroyed
25. Arioch - quickly brought Daniel before the king
25. Daniel - taken by Arioch to the king
25. captives of Judah - Arioch told the king he had found a man of the captives of Judah who could make known the interpretation
25. king - Arioch took Daniel to the king
In verses 20-23 Daniel expresses his thankfulness to God for His giving him the dream and it's interpretation. He attributes to God wisdom and might and says that God gives us those abilities. God is in control and while God knows what is in the darkness, light dwells in God.
